Why Scanned PDFs Need Specialized Inversion

How to Fine-Tune Your Scanned Documents
Use the advanced sliders under the tool options to achieve optimal readability.
1. Gamma Curve
Lowering gamma (e.g. 0.7–0.9) crushes background scanner noise into deep blacks. Raising gamma (1.2–1.5) pulls faded pencil strokes out of shadow.
2. Contrast Boost
Increasing contrast (+15 to +30) sharpens text edges and separates faded pen strokes from paper texture, creating crisp, punchy letterforms.
3. Brightness Trimming
Slightly nudging brightness lets you balance text luminance against dark margins without clipping subtle diagram line weights.
OCR & Text Selection in Scanned Documents

Scanned PDFs consist of high-resolution bitmap photos of physical paper pages. Some modern scanner applications embed an invisible OCR (Optical Character Recognition) text overlay layer beneath the image to enable text selection.
When you invert a scanned PDF with InvertPDFNow, the visual bitmap layer is transformed into crisp dark mode. If the original scan did not contain an embedded OCR layer, the output will remain a visual image and cannot be magically searched until processed through an external OCR tool.
